2010 weather forecast

Last year I got two conflicting forecasts for winter.  NOAA predicted basically a warmer than normal winter.  According to the Global Hockey Stick, the Holy Grail of all forecasts, it should have been balmy:

Using the hockey stick, as every serious global warming freak would say is absolute, it should have been about 70 degrees all summer.   But, the Old Farmer’s Almanac, going against all grains, predicted a colder, wetter winter.  My gut feeling, due to the total lack of solar activity, was in agreement with the Old Farmer’s Almanac.  Now, I know the hockey stick has been ditched for being a forecast engine since it’s already wrong.  But, global warming would have had it a warmer winter.  Winter was cold.  It was wet.  It snowed often, if not a lot.  School was canceled as much as any year I can remember since 1979.  The officials were wrong, the Old Farmer’s Almanac was right.  So, what’s the forecast for this year?

Winter will bring rapid changes in the weather, from mild to very cold and back to mild again. Temperatures will be slightly below normal, on average, while precipitation will be above normal, with near-normal snowfall. The coldest periods will occur in the second week of December, early to mid-January, mid- to late January, mid- and late February, and early March. The snowiest periods will occur in late January, mid-February, and early March.

April and May will be much warmer and drier than normal—great weather for outdoor activities, but raising concern about summer drought.

Summer will be cooler than normal, with the hottest periods in mid- and late July and early to mid-August. Rainfall will be below normal, with the greatest threat of drought in the east.

September and October will be slightly cooler than normal. Tropical moisture in the first part of September will bring above-normal rainfall.

Winter, cooler than normal.  Spring, warmer than normal.  Summer, coolder than normal ( dammit, dammit, dammit ), Fall, cooler than normal.

I’ll be hooking up the fireplace this year for sure.

Looking for a weather forecast for June 12,2010 in the Arundel Maine area. Thank you for your help.

Cooler than normal for that date. Just too much solar and volcanic activity to scream for a hotter summer.

Any forecast for Saturday, October 30th 2010? We’re planning an outdoors fundraiser on that day. Thanks!

Sort of depends on where you live. I’m shooting for 70′s during the day, cool and dry that night since most likely it will be Trick or Treat. Whether the weather cooperates or not is another matter.

Could you elaborate on the Sat Oct 30th 2010 for the Bucksport Maine area? Its our wedding.

This was a post a year ago generically predicting the overall climate particularly for North America by using the Farmer’s Almanac and my own personal observations regarding solar activity. Although it’s not been as cool as I expected, it has been quite wet. So, given that, I’d go ahead and get married on the 30th.
