Sci-Fi Songs list
Sep 7th, 2004 by Moonage
I am working on a list of some of the best sci-fi/science themed songs of all time.
So far, the list includes:
Space Oddity ( space travel )
Ziggy Stardust ( alien )
Rocket Man ( space travel )
Little Neutrino ( science )
Science Fiction Double Feature ( a song about sci-fi )
Moonage Daydream ( androids )
Saviour Machine ( artificial intelligence )
Down in the Park ( future )
Are Friends Electric? ( androids )
Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft ( alien contact )
Any suggestions?

Rush, 2112 (future, alien civilization)
Rush, Red Barchetta (future)
Styx, Come Sail Away (alien contact)
Good suggestions. Never thought of Come Sail Away as alien contact, but honestly never studied the lyrics that close. Being as both were huge when I was kid, it’s a perfect fit. Will definitely work those in. Thanks for the suggestions.
a link to tons of music referencing sci-fi:

One’s that I actually know and like:
Sandman by America
Earth Girls are Easy by B-52
The Martian Boogie by Brownsville Station
We Are Humans From Earth by T-Bone
Mr Spaceman by The Birds (a #1 classic)
I’m still reading the list…..

I’m reading the list as well. However, it includes a lot of fantasy stuff that I don’t consider SF. It definitely has the SF in it, but filtering out the other stuff slows me down. I might take that list and modify it some. I’m actually remaking some songs and was going to do this as a playlist. Your list kind of shoots that theory down. I’ll still do a few, and I already have a bunch. But I’m sure not going to tackle MOST of that list! Thanks for the help.
I’m sure you didn’t really mean to leave Children of the Sun by Billy Thorpe off the sci fi song list, did you? Good, I knew you didn’t!
Billy Thorpe is definitely included in Nalilo’s list, as is about every song ever recorded. Sheez, I need simpler projects. ( Excellent tune! )
How about:
I lost my heart to a Starship Trooper by Sarah Brighton
or
Magic Fly (It’s an Instrumental) by Space
Clare.
Starship Trooper has been mentioned before, here or somewhere else. Space.com kinda took what I was doing and ran with it in a way I can’t, so I kinda moved over there with them. The link and stuff is in a later post.
